About .gr domains

The .gr domain is Greece’s official country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) and has been available since 1989. The Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) is responsible for the allocation and management of .gr and .ελ domains, while the technical support and operation of the domain registry have been assigned to FORTH-ICS.

There are no restrictions. A .gr domain can be registered by anyone, regardless of nationality or place of residence. Both individuals and legal entities can register a .gr domain without the need for any special license or approval.

*A domain name must contain between 2 and 63 characters. Allowed characters: digits (0-9), letters (a-z), and hyphens (-). A hyphen cannot appear as the first or last character, nor can there be two consecutive hyphens (--). Since 2005, Greek characters have also been allowed in .gr domain names.
